IBTU is a non-profit organization that creates pathways for communities to experience better living through health equity and community activation. IBTU provides solution-based resources to underserved families in South Los Angeles through community engagement strategies. started in 2020, during a time when the nation was protesting injustice across the world. As the collective communities demonstrated unity through marching, discussion, and speaking in unifying ways, IBTU wanted to transform the height of the protest movement's essence of unity and bring it back to the South Central Los Angeles community.
Program Information
At the beginning of 2023, IBTU committed to expanding its reach by providing a holistic approach to building up the youth within the community members they serve. As a community-building organization, creating a program that empowers students to enhance their primary and secondary learning through the lens of service and community-building was vital. The Young Community Builders program will supplement students' academic journeys through guided coursework that will take them through several pillars of learning, which include exposure to resources regarding: self-development, professionalism, higher education, career, purpose, and service.Position Information
It’s Bigger Than Us seeks passionate and purpose-driven individuals looking to become Program Assistants who will work and support our program leaders, managers, and director (all grade levels) through the Young Community Builders program curriculum. Reporting to the Program Manager, Program Leaders are responsible for learning the program curriculum, executing the lesson plans, managing a program group of up to 25 students, and facilitating weekly implementation.Programs may include, but not be limited to Self-Development, Professionalism and Career & Higher Education learning. As well as providing a well-rounded point of view on community service and finding purpose.
Program assistants must embody the core values of IBTU and demonstrate their ability to serve, lead, and motivate the students throughout the program.
Curriculum
Be familiar with all curriculum provided by IBTU.
Understand how to model and promote the mission and values of It’s Bigger Than Us through proper appearance, word, and action.
Maintain decorum and provide a safe space for students to share and engage
Connect weekly with the program manager and execute administrative duties requested
Further details are to be outlined and discussed during the interview process.
Supervision
The program assistant will directly supervise students under the program manager's training and guidance.
Presence is required on campus and off-site based on designated site assignments.
Travel with students for planned field trips and special events
Maintain good order and discipline
Ensure the school rules and policies are reflected in daily practice
Facilitation
Work with the Program Leader and IBTU Team Members to ensure program activities are exciting, engaging, and relevant to youth, as well as organized and well thought-out.
Maintain professional and positive relationships with school staff, partners, students, and parents.
Provide and project a caring, supportive, and purposeful environment
No solicitation of personal brand, work, places of business, or organization during the program and/or during IBTU-related activities
Attend staff meetings, training, and off-site activities that the supervisor requires
Administrative
Take attendance, due to program manager
Provide a recap of the session, due to the program leader.
Hand out and gather student workbooks
Not limited to picking up, dropping off, and setting up supplies, food, beverages
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience coaching and/or mentoring
At least 3 months of experience supervising and supporting lead instructors of children in a childcare setting. Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are required within the first 3 months of employment.
Ability to pass a live scan - Paid for by IBTU
Complete all sexual harassment training
TB required before hire

Work Hours: Typical hours Monday-Friday between 1pm-3:30pm at 90 minute sessions; Off-sites potentially on the Saturdays. (Pending school, shift could start as early as 9:30am)
Compensation: $30-$35/hour depending on experience
